Title: Real Estate prices
Post by: ipacific on September 03, 2008, 10:05:05 PM
Can you please tell me the cost in dollars of buying a 1--2 bedroom house on American Samoa?
Also I need information about work opportunities such as teaching ESL, theatre, filmmaking?
Thank you,

Re: Real Estate
Land for sale in Am Samoa is rare as it is communal land, but there is some. Hopefully Am Samoa does'nt make the same mistake as Hawaii. Find the Samoa News Page out here on the internet and check the classified ads. Its linked to this page.

Re: Re: Real Estate
At this point I am seeking a price range for 1 bedroom houses in Samoa. I'm not ready to buy now just curious about prices for a middle income home. Can you give me some ball-park figures? The classified ads don't list prices.

aloha,
when are you contemplating traveling to the territory? The job openings for what you are asking? Requirements for teaching are changed, so you should have a teacher's certification and of course all the paperwork that goes with that occupation. Theater and film work, it's a huge opportunity because many talents of that field usually move away, I wish they would stay and start something, I am most interested in that also. There are a lot of good talents back home. Going back to the houses, how many of you? Have one that I am looking for a renter (either s/l term) it's a full house and I can negotiate, place is in town.

Aloha,
There are two of us. My girl friend and I. We have a modest income and are looking for low to medium cost housing, lower than the average Massachusetts range, where we live now. I work as a theatre and film director and teacher of ESL THROUGH THEATRE. It's one of the most effective ways to learn English.
Probably we would not move to Samoa for another year as I am busy producing a documentary film about survivors of Hiroshima-Nagasaki. Mainly I am interested in the price range of a 1 to 2 bedroom house in Samoa. Thanks for any information you can share.

Dear Kingfob,
Thank you for your reply. If you have a moment could you describe the quality of life on Samoa as you see and experience it. Or suggest a reference that I may read.
Thank you.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Real Estate
How can I describe life in Samoa and do justice to it? Compare to the U.S., life in Samoa can be very demanding. Most of the necessities, i.e. hot water, air condition, microwave, even a conventional oven, that you and I take for granted in the U.K., Europe, or the U.S. are considered luxuries in Samoa. Most of the farms are still planted and harvested by human hands instead of machines, and daily meals are still cooked in an unconventional oven called the umu, which is a task all by itself.
Yet, if you can adjust to the slow pace it offers, you will love it. The people are friendly and very helpful. It is near the equator so it can be very hot in the summer months, but the cool ocean breeze can compensate for the heat. The waterfalls are gorgeous, and the beaches are beautiful. Hope that has helped some.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Real Estate
Description of its people? I was on a Coast Guard cutter that visited the area for a week. When we came into port it was raining. I went into a local facility where I apologized for bringing the rain. The wonderful elderly lady said "Honey, the gods are glad that you are here. They are pouring their blessings on you and me for your visit here." I went out and played in the rain for the rest of the day. Isn't it wonderful how that one person made the rest of my trip so memorable? I keep looking forward to the day I can visit that beautiful land again.

It's a great story. A true "Singin' In The Rain."

Checkout www.samoanews.com
The paper sometimes lists houses for rent.
