Gov. Togiola receives $1 million from DOI for infrastructure and staff development

 Governor Togiola Tulafono today was presented $1 million in technical grants by Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary for Insular Affairs Mr. Nikolao Pula at the 5th Conference on Business Opportunities in the Islands in Honolulu.

Governor Togiola expressed his gratitude to Mr. Pula and his staff for providing the five technical assistance funds for the development of American Samoa infrastructure and staff development.

“We are always thankful to DOI and the Office of Insular Affairs for their help and through these funds we continue to make progress in solidifying our base in which our economic growth is built upon and that also includes what is at the heart of our mission, and that is contributing to achieving our aim of strengthening the capacities of our workforce,” said Governor Togiola. “Training, developing, getting and keeping the right people with the right skills is a priority in all of our personnel development. We need to build good capacity that can deliver high level of quality for our government.”

The breakdown of the total amount of the funding award of $1,019,052 is as follows:

    * $38,000 - Awarded to Development Bank of American Samoa (DBAS) for strengthening the institutional capacity of DBAS through participation in trade and advocacy associations.
    * $35,000 - DBAS for staff training.
    * $200,000 - American Samoa Power Authority for Linemen Training Program.
    * $175,000 - ASPA Wind Power Project.
    * $571,052 - ASPA Fagali’i - Maloata - Fagamalo Water/Waste Treatment Supply.

Joining Governor Togiola at the signing ceremony was First Lady Mary Ann Tulafono, Development Bank of American Samoa President Lolo M. Moliga, and Commerce Director Faleseu Eliu Paopao.
