Charlie the Tuna Monument
« on: September 08, 2009, 02:55:33 PM »
One of the biggest employers in American Samoa is StarKist, and since 1961 they have had the mascot, "Charlie the Tuna" representing StarKist Tuna.

Charlie believes that he is so hip and cultured that he has "good taste," and he is thus the perfect tuna for StarKist.
He has starred in over 85 TV commercials, always trying to learn good taste. But the answer is always: "Sorry, Charlie. StarKist wants tuna that tastes good, not tuna with good taste."

Fittingly, in the village of Atu'u, home of the StarKist cannery in Samoa there is a monument to "Charlie the Tuna."
A classic statue in front of the salad oil tanks in Atu'u.  Right off the main road, the only road!

Don't miss this photo opportunity!
