Serene Tui Give eyewitness account of Tsunami in Pago Pago
Serene Tui on way to school gives account as to what happened that morning September 29 when the 8.3 earthquake hit and the tsunami generated afterwards was like.
Pago Harbor receded until the bay bottom could be seen. Then a rushing wave approached. Afterwards, everything seems to bottom out for Pago Pago.
Interview taken 9 am at Fagatogo, American Samoa.
Standing along the pier on the small alia harbor, damage is seen all around.

A Wellington, NZ surfer tells how he escaped the tsunami by riding it out
Chris Nel was surfing with friends near the island of Savai'i when the water suddenly drained from the reef and they were sucked out to sea.
"Which was quite lucky actually because deeper water I think saved us. If anyone had been caught on the inside of the reef they would have been quite seriously injured or died."
The group was able to paddle against the incoming current and stayed out at sea, only returning to the beach when the water had settled.

NZTV: Concerns for Samoa tsunami survivors

NZTV airs show about concerns for Samoa tsunami survivors
Two months after a devastating tsunami killed nearly 200 in Samoa there are growing concerns for the thousands of traumatised survivors who desperately need help.
Whole village populations along the ravaged south coast of Samoa have fled to the hills unable to face the sea which claimed their loved ones.
When teenager Manaia Faaliga found his mother lying dead in a pool of water his childhood was ripped from him.
"It's so sad for me, we can never get over this. I feel sad most of the time," says Faaliga.

Pago Pago Tsunami

This was shot on the afternoon of the tsunami. Pago Pago was hit hard! The stream that runs behind Pago Plaza was full of cars. The day after I shot this, they pulled three bodies out of those cars. So sad! I was the first professional journalist on the scene, there in Samoa on another project. It became my personal mission to get these pictures out to the world. They were carried by KHON and KITV in Hawaii, and CNN International. God bless the people of Samoa!

This was shot on the day after the tsunami. These villages were hit very hard, and the residents had very little time to get out of harm's way. There were at least 10 dead in Leone. I was the first professional journalist on the scene, there in Samoa on another project. It became my personal mission to get these pictures out to the world. They were carried by KHON and KITV in Hawaii, and CNN International. God bless the people of Samoa!

this disaster has wasted most of samoan peoples life, sadly, wen i heard this boy found his mum lying dead i was pretty sad, because i could never imagine my self looking at my mom lying in the pool dead.
things like this happened for a reason, GOD did not send this disaster for no reason, he probably want us to repent and come unto him. just an opinion but i think everyone shall prepared for things like this.

Underwater debris from Samoan Tsunami
from NOAA
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=77edJ9RFZqY
The first half of this video shows marine debris washed out on to the coral reef offshore of Poloa, a village that was wiped out on the southwest corner of Tutuila, American Samoa during the tsunami on September 29, 2009.
Debris includes metal sheet roofing, tires, clothing, plastics, and more.
The 2nd half of this video shows the tsunami-inflicted damage to the coral reef off the coast of Leone, which is also on the southwestern coast of Tutuila. The tsunami was generated by an 8.3 magnitude earthquake that struck at 6:48am, 120 miles south of Tutuila, and caused major damage to American Samoa and other islands nearby.
