Rowing is a favorite sport in Samoa and many villages have teams to compete in the Flag Day competitions.
Crew members of Fagaâ€™aluâ€™s Fetu o le Afiafi fautasi row out to sea after the boat was christened March 15, 2010. Captain of the Fetu is Teiutafeau Mitch Shimasaki. Villagers crowded Fagaâ€™alu Park for the christening ceremony yesterday.
Rev. Lalomauga Paâ€™au, leader of the EFKAS Fagaalu blessed the boat and crew with words of prayer. Among the gathering were Sen. Amituanaâ€™i Eteuati and son Rep. Vailoata Amituanaâ€™i.
The Fetu is the former Faâ€™asaulala that was owned by Vailoa village. It will race in the 2010 Flag Day tuuga vaâ€™a next month.
