Leone Health center dedicated
« on: March 24, 2010, 10:28:12 AM »

Governor Togiola Tulafono dedicated the Leone Community Health Center Wednesday, March 10, 2010, which will serve the counties of Fofo, Tualatai and Alataua.
In his dedication ceremony remarks, Governor Togiola said the new community health center is all part of the government’s commitment across the Territory to bring enhanced and expanded primary and women’s healthcare services closer to the people.

“If we all want to play a part in managing our own health, it is critical that we have access to good primary health care. So, we are very proud that this new medical facility will make it possible for all the good people from Futiga to Vailoa, and Leone all the way to Fagamalo, to be able to utilize this brand new health center and the many services that it will provide without going to LBJ in Faga’alu. May this health center serve as a refuge for all who enter and provide life and comfort to the sick and the injured.”

The new medical facility, located between Leone High School and the new Leone Early Childhood Center, will provide a more modern setting for outpatient treatment in the Western District.

The Leone Community Health Center has a Dental Clinic, Well Baby Clinic and a Primary Care Clinic. Pre-Natal and Outpatient Examinations are also conducted at the health center, with a pharmacy, Emergency Room and EMS services.

The 4900 square foot structure was constructed by Quality Paint and Construction at a cost of $694,898. Funds for the project came from the Department of the Interior’s capital improvement program.

“We continue to work together in the best interests of our island residents, and finding ways to meet the health care needs and convenience for the mothers, children, our elderly and the whole family,” said Governor Togiola. “We say thank you to DOI and the ongoing financial support for many of our projects, and also to Health Director Tuiasina Salamo Laumoli and his department. With Amouli Health Center, Tafuna Health Center and now Leone Health Center, I am sure you will agree that that represents a huge leap forward for all of us in providing quality health services for our people.”

Governor Togiola gave the honor of cutting the ceremonial ribbon to Chief Justice Lealaialoa Michael Kruse, a native of Leone.

Earlier in the day, Governor Togiola joined Leone village chiefs to dedicate their new 1630 foot road in the Lepuapua-to-Lalolama section of the village near the old Alamai Store. Togia'i Tony Togia'i and Continental Transport Corporation Construction took a year to build the road at a cost of $498,406.
