Memorial for those lost in Sept. 29 Tsunami

On Wednesday, September 29, 2010, the people of American Samoa will hold island-wide services to honor the memories of the 34 loved ones who lost their lives during the 2009 Tsunami and Earthquake

As we prepare to commemorate the one-year anniversary of the September 29, 2009 tsunami and earthquake disaster, the American Samoa Government would like to take this opportunity to publicly acknowledge the many organizations and individuals as well as our partners who have contributed to our Recovery and Relief Efforts. The people of American Samoa are deeply grateful for the outpouring of assistance and support during last year's disaster.

At exactly 6:00 am on Wednesday, September 29, 2010, the people of American Samoa will gather in church services across the island to pay our respect and to honor the memory of the 34 individuals who lost their lives as well as those who survived the 2009 tsunami and earthquake.

At exactly 6:48 am, church bells will be synchronized island-wide to ring thirty-four times to pay tribute to each of the individual loved ones lost during the 2009 disaster. May God Bless the people of American Samoa as we observe and remember this event.
