« on: September 28, 2010, 08:22:06 AM »
September 23, 2010 -  Lieutenant Governor Faoa Sunia has announced a grant award of $1.6 million from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) for the rehabilitation of Taxiway A at Pago Pago International Airport in Tafuna.

Lieutenant Governor Faoa said the DOT funds, through the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), will be used to enhance the safety of aircraft operations and to meet FAA airport design standards. Taxiway A is the main taxiway used for all air carrier aircraft at the Tafuna airport.

“We continue to receive great news for our airport and these federal funds trulyhelp us keep our runways and taxiways safe,” said Lieutenant Governor Faoa. “Our plans have been in place to rehabilitate parallel Taxiway A at Pago Pago International Airport and in doing so will make our airport safer for not only the travelling public, but just as safe for all of our good people who work for the airlines, ground service crews and ASG airport employees.”

Lieutenant Governor Faoa would like to express the sincere thanks of the Territory to Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood, FAA Administrator J. Randolph Babbitt and local FAA residence director – Mr. Leaoina Smitty Lutu and staff for the support and cooperation that secured the taxiway rehabilitation project funding.
