« on: October 08, 2010, 07:50:17 AM »
September 29, 2010 Governor Togiola Tulafono today took part in the groundbreaking for 9.29 Memorial Park in Vaitogi, a place to honor the lives of those who died a year ago due to the tsunami.

Governor Togiola joined Reverend Elder Kalepo Vaitautolu, CCCAS Vaitogi, Reverend Fa’avae Fa’avae Jr., Mthodist Church of Futiga, Lieutenant Governor Faoa Sunia, Chief Justice Leala’ialoa Michael Kruse, Senate President Gaoteote Pala’ie Tofau, House Speaker Savali Talavou Ale, Samoan Affairs Secretary Tufele Fa’ato’ia Li’amatua, and High Chief Ufuti Fa’afetai Ieremia, to break ground for the project that is on eight acres of land that belongs to the American Samoa Government.

“We will erect a monument to honor and offer our respect to our loved ones who died on that fateful Tuesday morning twelve months ago today. And also, it will be a place to give thanks to God for His love in sparing many more of our lives,” said Governor Togiola. “And as you enjoy 9.29 Memorial Park in the future, let us call to mind our loved ones from that never-to-be-forgotten day and also be reminded of being prepared for any and all emergencies.”
