Hello,

My name is Joey... my dad's side of the family is from America Samoa, but when my parents got divorced I wasn't able to be around the Samoan side as much as I would have liked to. Not nearly enough to have learned more than baby samoan.

I'm now a theatre actor, and love to sing songs... but thought it would be interesting to translate a song into Samoan, because while I didn't get to learn the language, I still feel very grounded and attached to the beauty of the language.

I'm wondering if someone would be willing to help me translate "Waving Through A Window" from Dear Evan Hansen into Samoan. This would just be for fun and would be fun for me to sort of mesh my worlds together.

When musicals get translated to different languages, of course things change because of the language differences... but what I'm looking for are the same syllables and basically the same meaning.

Here are the lyrics in English:

[Verse 1:]
I've learned to slam on the brake
Before I even turn the key
Before I make the mistake
Before I lead with the worst of me

[Verse 2:]
Give them no reason to stare
No slipping up if you slip away
So I got nothing to share
No, I got nothing to say

[Pre-Chorus:]
Step out, step out of the sun
If you keep getting burned
Step out, step out of the sun
Because you've learned, because you've learned

[Chorus:]
On the outside, always looking in
Will I ever be more than I've always been?
'Cause I'm tap, tap, tapping on the glass
I'm waving through a window
I try to speak, but nobody can hear
So I wait around for an answer to appear
While I'm watch, watch, watching people pass
I'm waving through a window, oh
Can anybody see, is anybody waving back at me?

[Verse 3:]
We start with stars in our eyes
We start believing that we belong
But every sun doesn't rise
And no one tells you where you went wrong

[Pre-Chorus:]
Step out, step out of the sun
If you keep getting burned
Step out, step out of the sun
Because you've learned, because you've learned

[Chorus:]
On the outside, always looking in
Will I ever be more than I've always been?
'Cause I'm tap, tap, tapping on the glass
Waving through a window
I try to speak, but nobody can hear
So I wait around for an answer to appear
While I'm watch, watch, watching people pass
Waving through a window, oh
Can anybody see, is anybody waving?

[Bridge:]
When you're falling in a forest and there's nobody around
Do you ever really crash, or even make a sound?
When you're falling in a forest and there's nobody around
Do you ever really crash, or even make a sound?
When you're falling in a forest and there's nobody around
Do you ever really crash, or even make a sound?
When you're falling in a forest and there's nobody around
Do you ever really crash, or even make a sound?
Did I even make a sound?
Did I even make a sound?
It's like I never made a sound
Will I ever make a sound?

[Chorus:]
On the outside, always looking in
Will I ever be more than I've always been?
'Cause I'm tap, tap, tapping on the glass
Waving through a window
I try to speak, but nobody can hear
So I wait around for an answer to appear
While I'm watch, watch, watching people pass
Waving through a window, oh
Can anybody see, is anybody waving back at me? (Ooh)

[Outro:]
Is anybody waving?
Waving, waving, whoa-oh, whoa-oh-oh-oh

NOTE: I don't know if there's a Samoan equivalent to "Woah" or "Oh"... I'm willing to let them stay the same, as I think they're more vocal than actual words. Open to hearing thoughts.

Thank you so much!

It would be most true that it was.
